Golden Gas Service Company Submits Application for Certificate of Convenience and Necessity for Joy Station Project

June 2, 2025

Tulsa, OK - Golden Gas Service Company announced today that it has submitted its application to the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) on June 3, 2025, for a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) to construct and operate the Joy Station project—a premier intrastate natural gas storage and pipeline facility located in Kiowa County, Kansas.

The Joy Station project is designed to enhance regional energy reliability and resilience by providing high-deliverability natural gas storage and transportation services at the crossroads of the U.S. pipeline network. The first phase of the project will provide 2.4 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working gas capacity with direct interconnects to key intrastate and interstate pipelines, ensuring critical supply availability during periods of peak demand.

“We are excited to advance the Joy Station project through the regulatory process and take a meaningful step toward strengthening Kansas’ energy infrastructure,” said Blaise Staab, Project Finance Lead at Golden Gas. “This facility will provide firm storage capacity and flow assurance for utilities, power generators, and end-users across the region.”

Pending approval by the KCC, Golden Gas expects to commence construction in late 2025, with commercial operations beginning in 2029.
